Burn a stunning mandala with beautiful linework and intricate details as we explore and incorporate simple art principles in our work.

This workshop allows you to actually see the elements of art and principles of design in use! Us self-taught artists might not have ever studied the elements and principles of design and may have never done a project that intentionally focuses on using them. This woodburning workshop allows you to do just that!

This class is self-guided for independent learning.

Renée Foskett Wilson, Pyrographer + Art Educator

HEYO!

I'm Renée- a fun and silly mixed-media pyrography artist, art educator, and small business entrepreneur.

I'm here to teach you no-fluff, high-touch, in-depth workshops that take you through the nitty-gritty details in an authentic way to help you explore, learn, and grow as an artist.

I teach as if we're sitting together and having a conversation. I keep it raw and real. No gatekeeping. No secrets. If I don't know the answer then I'll help you find the answer.

Subjects and topics are approachable, easy to understand, juicy, and specific. We go step by step, building block by building block. I make jokes and TikTok references and laugh and make learning fun.

I deliver information that actually answers your questions.

So jump on in. I'd love to lead you through this woodburning workshop, step by step.

Specifics About This Workshop:

1: Explore art principles

Many ingredients make art art. We will spend about 30 minutes overviewing the principles of design and art elements so you can get a feel for what it is we're doing with our mandala.

2: Learn how to balance your mandala

You don't want a boring mandala but you don't want to overdo it either. We want our art to be interesting, visually appealing, and captivating to the viewer. We are going to be very intentional and mindful about what elements we add to our mandalas so we can achieve a balanced piece.

3: We're going to explore linework

In my opinion, linework can make or break a piece, ESPECIALLY in mandalas that are supposed to be symmetrical and repetitive. We're going to explore using lines to our advantage.

4: We're going to explore textures

Not all textures are made equal! Some woodburned textures are dense and dark while others are light and airy. Some textures are bold while others are soft. Some are striking while others are very subtle. We're going to analyze our mandala as we go so we can determine which textures would best achieve the look we are going for.
